School Librarian as Program Administrator
The program administrator might be the most recognizable role a school librarian plays.
Establishing library policies ("How many books can I check out, Ms. Johnson?"),
overseeing library budget ("Hey Ms. J, did we get any new books in yet?"),
planning the physical and virtual library space ("Where can I find books about dogs?"),
these are the things we anticipate a school librarian might deal with on a day to day basis.
The library media center doesn't just happen when the doors open in the morning, though. Much behind-the-scenes work must happen in order for it to be a welcoming, innovative learning space in the school. This is where the school librarian as program administrator comes in. I've selected three artifacts to represent the tasks imperative to a program administrator.
